Dear Math Supervisors of Long Island, As the final months of the school year approach, I want to take a moment to extend my sincere thanks for your continued involvement and support of the Association of Math Supervisors of Long Island (AMSLI). It has been an honor to serve as President over the past two years, and I am proud of the work we've accomplished together to support mathematics education across our region. I am excited to pass the torch to John Towers of Levittown, who will serve as AMSLI’s next President. I know he will continue to lead with passion and dedication as we look toward the future. We are also excited to welcome our newest executive board members: John Watson, Supervisor of Mathematics (Grades 6–12) at Massapequa; Dr. Kim Mattes, Director of Mathematics (K–12) at North Shore; and Marguerite Spriggs, Mathematics Department Chair at W.T. Clarke High School in East Meadow Over the past two years, AMSLI has proudly redefined and revitalized our organization to better represent math leadership across all of Long Island. We’ve reinvigorated our membership and re-established AMSLI as a trusted resource for math administrators. From providing access to past conference materials and shared professional development resources to hosting members-only events, our mission has been to create a supportive space for collaboration, learning, and leadership. We hope to continue growing these resources and opportunities to better serve you and strengthen mathematics education on Long Island. Please know that your feedback is always welcome, we are committed to evolving in ways that best support your needs. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any suggestions, questions, or ideas for events and resources you’d like AMSLI to offer. Please save the date for our Fall Conference on November 20th at the Huntington Hilton. We’re thrilled to welcome Phil Dituri, who will guide us in continuing our focus on student engagement, problem solving, and critical thinking through the lens of group work and the “Building Thinking Classrooms” strategies that many of us have been exploring and implementing in recent years. Wishing you all a smooth and successful end to the school year. Thank you again for being an essential part of the AMSLI community and for all you do in support of mathematics education. Warm regards, |
